If you’re in need of an unconventional refresher on the days of the week in German, “Bürotage” (“Office days”) by Berlin-based band Die Höchste Eisenbahn may be just the song for you. Die Höchste Eisenbahn is a supergroup project whose members come together sporadically in between other successful musical projects to musizieren (make music), to great effect.
The band released “Bürotage” last week alongside a quirky and whimsical music video, marking their first musical release since 2019. The group is also currently working on a new album that is planned for release this upcoming September.
The song’s lyrics reflect on die Absurdität (the absurdity) of modern life, where time for real relationships and experiences is often lost to the never-ending demands of work and technology.
Montag, Dienstag, Mittwoch sind meine Bürotage,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday are my office days,
da kann ich leider nicht,
unfortunately I can't,
aber Donnerstag, Freitag, Samstag, Sonntag,
but Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
bin ich da.
I’m there.
If one of the members of Die Höchste Eisenbahn looks familiar, you may recognize Moritz Krämer from “Wir drehen uns im Kreis”, an adorable duet with Lina Maly that was shared a few months ago. The band has also recorded a unique version of the German Schlager classic “Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen” along with Sprachmelodie-favorite AnnenMayKantereit, which is also worth a listen.
Wishing you a wonderful Donnerstag, Freitag, Samstag, Sonntag…
Bis nächste Woche!
Jessica
