About Sprachmelodie

Hallo! I’m Jessica, an American currently living in Heidelberg, Germany with my German husband and our family.

Over the past ten years or so, I’ve developed a love for both the German language and German music, and they’ve each come to play a meaningful role in my daily life. Sprachmelodie is where I bring these interests together, with the hope of helping and encouraging others on their own language-learning journey.

Sprachmelodie is the German word for intonation, or the way that a voice rises and falls when speaking – the melody of speech. Just as intonation brings together language and musicality, this blog aims to highlight and celebrate the connection between music and language.

Each week Sprachmelodie features a song in German, alongside related thoughts about the German language, culture, or my own experiences living in Germany. There’s usually a vocabulary list as well!

You can also utilize the music index to find German music based on language/grammar topic, artist, or genre, as well as discover recommended resources for learning German.

Whether you’re learning German, teaching German, or just have a general interest in the intersection of music and language, I’m so glad to have you here!
